A small independent publisher writing plain-English consumer guides to security software, funded by affiliate commission and transparent about it.

What this site is

sorentis.online publishes explanatory guides about consumer security products — antivirus suites, VPNs, password managers — aimed at people who want to understand what they are buying without having to learn the vocabulary of the industry first.

We are not a laboratory. We do not run malware samples against products and we do not publish detection scores of our own, because doing that credibly requires an isolated test bench, a curated sample set and a published methodology, none of which we have. What we do instead is explain the mechanisms, point you at the organisations that do run those tests, and be explicit about where our knowledge ends.

Who writes it

Articles on this site are written and signed by Margaret Ward, who is also responsible for the site’s content as director of publication. Every article carries a byline, a publication date and a last-reviewed date. If an article has no name on it, it is not ours.

How it is paid for

This site carries no display advertising, no sponsored posts and no paid placement. Its only revenue is affiliate commission: when a reader follows a link marked “partner link” and buys something, the seller pays us a share. The reader pays the same price either way.

That arrangement creates an obvious incentive problem, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. The way we manage it is set out in the editorial policy, and the commercial relationships themselves are listed in the advertising disclosure.

What we do not do

• We do not publish invented reader stories, testimonials or reviews.
• We do not publish star ratings or scores out of ten.
• We do not use countdown timers, stock-level warnings or any other manufactured urgency.
